Dear Stephen,
I am sure you know pretty well about this place and the mentality of the people here.....
Most of the parents don't want their daughter to go to school, and if you remember we told you how we encourage the parents ,,,we use to go door to door and aware the importance of women education and empowerment to the parents,,, and had to request them to send their daughters to send them to school, we even provided them free tuition, books and uniform ….The parents think its useless to educate their daughter. They think that ..they will marry and go to husband's house and have to look after household chores,, and its useless educating them,, we really had tough time convincing them but did not give up... and the result is today we have 60% girls and 40% boys studying in our school (total number of students 500) . Girls are ahead in all the classes ,,, we did do counseling to them time to time ,, that they have to prove that they can do better if they get opportunity and they did it... in almost all the classes girls are in top 5 position... in their studies,,, besides they also actively participate in any activity.. football, singing,, dancing ,, drama,, anchoring,, hosting a program, what we do is we give them the responsibility to organize different activities and tell them they are responsible for everything,, preparing to hosting to closing,, we do check on them but pretend that we are not at all bother but every program they have organized is up to the mark.. You too have attended some of the program ,,,they were all organized by our students.....
They have also formed a club (Josephine's Girls club) where they discuss about their day to day problem and no male teachers and no boys are involved.. they discuss about their problem at home and how its difficult to cope with their studies.... including their so called DUTY at home,, washing ,,cleaning ,,, cooking e.t.c but the senior students and Indrdani helps them and counsel them…..this girls club also discuss about being abuse from their father (drunkard) but with the supervision of Indrani ( as she is female too) they over come all problems thinking that it is a part of life and through education they can overcome all their problems and live a happy and peaceful life later....
In one of the girls club meeting they called me and Indrani and told us that they were very thankful to us and are obliged to us and are in debt for what we are doing and wants to pay us back ....we told them that being Christian its our duty to do what we are doing.... they were asking us how could they pay us back and we told them it would be even if they do good in their studies and they have taken it very seriously and are doing really very good in studies in all the classes girls are doing very very good in studies,, and even in colleges some of them topped the college and came to meet us.... they enjoy coming to school and share the problems with us ....they treat us like their own parents...
Anything for school,, they are always ready,,, seeing this even the boys are very active,, they don't hesitate to do any kind of work in school..These students don't like long holidays,,, if some teacher are absent the senior students take classes ,, tell stories to the smaller kids ,,, check their neatness,, cut their nails,,, they take real good care of the school and the students... they say they feel home at school.
More than 85% of the villagers says and accepts that St. Joseph’s is the best school in the entire locality….
God has really blessed us …. It’s the answer of the prayers of all ….
Love and prayers…
