Taiwan Train Accident Kills Least  18 and Injures 175
                                                    Oct. 23-2018

Less than 1 ½  hour drive  by car , one the worst train accidents took place in the history of Taiwan took place.

Our  small team of 4 , left in the afternoon, in an effort to bring some help and prayer to those injured or traumatized in the accident.

Though many were in intensive care, we were not able to meet the injured or their families,  but the Hospital Staff welcomed us, and let us minister to the other patients in the Hospital.

We also  took the opportunity to talk to the reporters and photographers as well and give out Gospel tracts and pray for those in need.

Eighteen people have been killed and 175 others injured when one of Taiwan's newer, faster trains derailed on a curve along a popular weekend route.
Key points:
  • The government said the train had been carrying 366 people
  • Some passengers were crushed to death after the train cars turned over
  • More than 100 soldiers are helping firefighters rescue those trapped inside

The Puyuma express train was travelling from a suburb of Taipei toward Taitung, a city on Taiwan's south-east coast, when it went off the tracks at 4:50pm (local time), the Taiwan central government said in a statement.

The National Fire Agency had earlier cited the Cabinet spokesman's office as saying 22 people were killed, but later lowered the toll to 18, saying there was a mistake in the calculations.

All 366 passengers onboard — including the dead and injured — had been evacuated or removed from the wreckage, the Taiwan Railways Administration said.

"The train was going very fast. I thought to myself: Why was it not slowing down on a curve?" 30-year-old Henry Tseng, who was onboard one of the overturned carriages and suffered eye injuries, told Reuters.

"I hit a wall when the car started to flip. Around five to six people were thrown out of the carriage door.
There's no time to think what happened. Everyone was in a rush to get out."

Some passengers were crushed to death, Ministry of National Defence spokesman Chen Chung-chi said.

"Their train car turned over. They were crushed, so they died right away,” he said.About 120 soldiers were called to the site to help remove bodies so that they could be identified, he added, but nightfall was complicating rescue work.

Photos from the scene just south of the city of Luodong showed the train's eight cars in a zig-zag formation near the tracks. Five of the cars are turned over on their sides.
Most of the deaths were in the first car, which flipped over, a government spokesman said.

Local television reports said passengers were trying to escape through train windows and that bystanders had gathered to help them before rescuers arrived.   Authorities are investigating the cause of the derailment.
